The Six Perfections
(skt;paramitas)
GENEROSITY

There is a plant, well known in Asia- it is a member of the onion family, and it is delicious in soup, fried rice and omletes- that grows back in less then twenty four hours everytime you cut it. And the more you cut it the bigger and stronger it grows. This plant represents one of the 6 Perfections . . .  the  perfection of Generosity.
The more we give the more we receive or as a  letter of St Pauls says,  “As we sow, so shall we reap”.
Practising generosity brings joy to your heart and goodwill and  peace to others.
Thank you for your interest in supporting our work. The Oddiyana Dharma Sanctuary has recently relocated to the above address from a small space under our Spiritual Directors (Choeying Dolma’s) house. This was due to out - growing our space as well as the previous location limiting our presence in the community to be able to be most beneficial to the community at large.

We are a small community of Buddhist practitioners both lay (not ordained) and ordained (monks and nuns) dedicated to growing a healthier, happier more harmonious community for the Hervey Bay residents and visitors alike.

We are a small community lacking the resources and “people power” to be able to fulfil our heartfelt aspirations to benefit others. So we ask that our sponsors  kindly consider putting us on your volunteer programme as well as becoming a sponsor individually so we are able to invite people to our Sanctuary to attend our classes, courses, workshops and retreats with the view to helping them overcome their suffering and promoting a more harmonious community for us all to live in.
We do this by providing the services below recorded for your consideration. All our sponsors’ names will be placed in a prominent place on our large, “Board of Generosity”, display with a small business card section for their business cards. The Board of Generosity will be placed in the reception area near the cafe. We have a template made that has personal, heartfelt thanks to our individual sponsors.  The templates are in production and as soon as it is ready we can send it to you.
We currently provide the following services for our community;

Meditation/Yoga,
We facilitate regular meditation/ yoga classes, courses, retreats and workshops for individuals, children, adults, the elderly, the sick (including the terminally ill from all faiths and non faiths), businesses, companies, sporting organisations, Government organisations, counselling services and so on.

We also facilitate the following Workshops . .

Schools
The Sanctuary teaches our young children Mind Training Meditation techniques combined with philosophical classes assisting our children to enhance concentration and encourage better (non – religious) ethics and morality in our young. With the long term view of our young having less behavioural problems due to having clearer minds to better avoid and recognise the consequences of all their actions flowing on to produce a more harmonious and peaceful community for them as individuals and us all.

Businesses
Business has been under a lot of financial and personal pressure in these financially tumultuous times. The Sanctuary supports our business community by facilitating teaching Mind Training Meditation techniques combined with philosophy classes to promote and assist our Business community by promoting and encouraging new ways of looking at conducting business for better outcomes for themselves and their business.
These workshops also provide for staff training which includes teaching Mind Training Meditation techniques combined with philosophy classes for businesses staff members by training members how to accomplish and promote a more harmonious working environment for all.

Company - Professional and Personal Development Workshops for Management & Staff
All successful Companies and astute business people recognise a company or business is a “work” family who are all in the one (or same) boat. They also know if any member of the family is anxious and upset and unhappy, which causes the boat to tip over, they all sink and drown together and the company fails.
They also recognise that it is having the right personal around them that is the “key” to a successful company. With this in mind The Sanctuary workshops have a tailored programme including Mind Training Meditation techniques combined with philosophical classes to assist companies in encouraging all members to look at new ways of being and therefore creating a better working environment for all.
This course encourages participation by all work family participants including CEOs, managers and staff members (either individually or as a group workshop). The Sanctuary promotes a more holistic approach to learn more effective ways of how to work harmoniously together for better outcomes for themselves and their company. These workshops facilitate learning more effective ways to work without the stress and pressure that can be all too common and debilitating in most company environments. The course also promotes how to cultivate loyalty and mutual respect for each other in the working environment resulting in a happy harmonious work place for all.

Government and Community Agencies (such as Community Solutions)
These wonderful Community organisations with equally wonderful dedicated staff contribute to a happier and healthier community for us all. They are too often placed under enormous psychological and emotional pressure without the tools to cope with this environment. We aim to support these selfless workers by teaching them Mind Training Meditation techniques combined with philosophical classes promoting more harmonious work environments for managers and staff alike which has a flow on effect to their clients. We also facilitate workshops for their clients to support their clients as well as the workers in their often difficult and unrecognised and undervalued work.

Health Workers
Again these wonderful people who serve our community need supporting in their efforts to fulfil this very challenging work. We at the sanctuary provide this by facilitating workshops which include teaching Mind Training Meditation techniques combined with philosophical classes promoting managing stress and the demands placed on Health Workers while working in a potentially demanding stressful environment.

Cancer & Terminally Ill Workshops
People going through terminal and life threatening illnesses are often very afraid and confused and usually have to endure extreme emotional and physical pain. Choeying Dolma has been on her own personal journey of surviving cancer on more than one occasion and found these workshops so beneficial that she wishes to share these nurturing workshops with others dealing with terminal and severe illnesses. As well as her own personal journey where she relied heavily on the various meditation techniques she will share with you she also draws heavily on Buddhist philosophy. Her cancer journey inspired her to attend and complete the Spiritual Care of the Dying Course facilitated by Judy Aparana through the Siddhartha’s Intent Buddhist Organisation in Bangalow NSW

Police Force
Our dedicated and often unrecognised Police Force officers work hard at keeping our community safe. They do this wonderful work day in and day out often with little or no appreciation of their difficult and dedicated efforts of protecting us and our community from harm. The Sanctuary supports our Police Force by facilitating workshops that teach Mind Training Meditation techniques combined with philosophical classes to better equip these extraordinary people. We support our community members who are working in this potentially volatile and emotionally charged environment to better be able to stay sane and compassionate towards themselves and others in an all too often dispassionate and cruel environment.

Prison Workers and Inmates,

The Sanctuary promotes non violence, at the same time avoiding future criminal activities (especially in our young) through teaching very effective Mind Training Meditation techniques combined with philosophy classes for inmates and staff, to promote and develop self awareness, to better manage destructive emotions such as frustration, anger and so on. Choeying has many years of experience working in a prison environment while teaching at the Capricornia Correctional Centre in Rockhampton for many years.

Choeying and Jane

Aged care workers and patients

Aged cared workers are in much demand in a world that reveres youth and promotes anti aging. Feeling the after effects of this great loss to our community seeing our culture now institutionalising the wisdom accumulated in the elderly community we at The Sanctuary facilitate workshops teaching Mind Training Meditation techniques combined with philosophy classes promoting more nurturing ways of dealing with the potentially physically and emotionally draining responsibilities of Aged Care workers and patients alike.

Hospital workers

Our hospital workers need to be honoured and nurtured. Where would we all be without doctors and nurses to care for us when we are in pain and suffering both physically and emotionally? These totally selfless women and men of mercy have a huge responsibility and work load to keep you and your community alive and well – often at a great personal cost. The Sanctuary supports these amazing people in our community by teaching a tailor made set of Meditation techniques combined with a tailored philosophy class to show our gratitude for dealing with the physically and emotionally draining responsibilities our Doctors, nurses and hospital staff workers potentially experience. They are often working for very long hours day and night and break under the pressure. Choeying is extremely grateful and acutely aware of the enormous expectations put on hospital staff and she and the sangha members at the Sanctuary wishes to repay their kindness by facilitating these workshops so they are better able to work calmly and harmoniously in this often stressful high tension environment of a hospital and/or Doctors surgery environment.

Fire Fighters

Our Fire Fighters are also a valued member of our community by saving lives and property often at the expense of their own lives. The Sanctuary wishes to repay their selfless kindness by facilitating workshops teaching various Meditation techniques combined with philosophical classes assisting our fire fighters in dealing with the potential psychological and physical effects of working in a potentially distressing and physically challenging environment.

Sporting Organisations

Aussies love their sport and are very competitive. The Sanctuary promotes the “Humble in Victory and Glorious in Defeat” mantra which we believe is a more honourable and admirable quality. We believe this quality which is visibly and audibly devoid in our modern culture where, “To Win at All Costs”, has become the modern sporting mantra. Hence we are subjecting our youth’s psychology to deteriorate by watching and participating in sporting events displaying unnecessary violence to young men/women in a world that is suffering more and more levels of extreme violence often resulting in the deaths of our young.   The Sanctuary promotes non violent sport and concentrates on promoting better sportsmanship through facilitating workshops. The Sanctuary facilitates workshops promoting concentration and mindfulness resulting in more fun as well as the desired outcomes for the participants (both personally and collectively). The Sanctuary members facilitate various meditation techniques and philosophical contemplations to develop better concentration for the desired outcomes in their chosen sporting activities

These visits can then benefit local businesses that flow onto the broader community.
